Zirconia is the material used for white ceramic knives. CERA Dental Clinic gives this hard material a translucency close to that of a natural tooth, and bonds it to the tooth with Zir-Etch — a surface treatment and bonding protocol developed by the clinic's own laboratory, CeraDento Lab.
On the clinic's own comparison, zirconia has a strength of about 900–1,200 MPa, against about 400–500 MPa for E.max, and the highest fracture resistance of the veneer materials. The clinic recommends it for people who clench or grind their teeth, for dark teeth that need masking, and where durability comes first, and lists a lifespan of 15 to 20 years or more.
Zirconia laminates are $880 per tooth.
